Mercedez Thompson is a writer and literature scholar turned marketing and proposals expert. She believes in the power of storytelling to connect with clients and build business. As the Marketing and Proposals Coordinator for Brycon's Nevada Division, Mercedez shares the company message with clients, prospective clients, and the communities we serve. Mercedez creates and presents proposals in response to federal, state, county, and private solicitations to differentiate Brycon from industry competitors and win new contracts. She believes that a successful proposal is client-focused, telling a story about how we share the client's vision and how we solve the client's problems. To tell that story, we must understand what drives the project and we must be able to articulate the soul of our own firm.
Mercedez earned her Master of Arts in English from Indiana University IUPUI in June 2017. Her thesis is titled "Herstory: Female Artists' Resistance in "The Awakening," "Corregidora," and "The Dew Breaker." It examines female characters in women's literature who seek the erotic via their art of choice and, in doing so, resist disempowerment and explore the life-giving nature of female connection. Her research interests include 20th Century Multicultural Women's Literature and Gender/Sexuality Studies. Her teaching interests focus on Composition, more specifically First-Year or Basic Writing. Her teaching philosophy stems from the ideas that (1) great writing comes from great questions, and (2) writing must be a social process. She currently teaches Composition I at the University of Nevada, Reno.
